What Our Members Say

Hear from people who are part of our community.

It is known that I have been serving in various departments of the Amhara National Movement (NAMA) since its inception and am still serving. Accordingly, our party, guided by the roadmap laid out by ABN, has played a significant role in the struggle to ensure that the demands of the Amhara people are recognized and responded to by all, by moving from mobilizing the people to organizing them.Accordingly, the fact that NAMA is a teaching organization that is the result of peaceful struggle shows that we have come to believe that it is.Therefore, we are struggling to build a democratic and multi-party system in our common country, where our unity is preserved, and a country that is comfortable for all its citizens, so that the government can understand the demands of the Amhara people and international institutions can also understand our demands.

Since I became a member of the Amhara National Movement (NAMA), I have witnessed the party actively working to support one of the most marginalized segments of our society — persons with disabilities — who have long been denied the attention they deserve in our country. NAMA has advocated for the correction of structural and legal injustices, worked to bring persons with disabilities into the forefront, and involved them in leadership roles as part of a visible and inclusive civic process. When persons with disabilities face harm — whether naturally or as a result of human actions — it is deeply troubling that existing societal attitudes and legal protections fail to safeguard them. They often become the main victims and the first to suffer when problems arise. Moreover, due to their Amhara identity, they experience additional layers of injustice and discrimination. It is vital that their voices are heard directly and their representation is strengthened. I take great pride in following NAMA’s inclusive principles that advocate for such engagement. In various forums, I have raised my voice about the injustices committed against the Amhara people, especially the violence and legal challenges targeting persons with disabilities. I have been compelled to join the party because our demands align with the policy agenda and advocacy platforms that NAMA promotes. Moving forward, we will continue working to organize persons with disabilities and empower their participation in political life.

Since becoming a member of the Amhara National Movement (NAMA), I have seen the party operate as a true civic organization by actively including women, who make up over 50% of our society. NAMA has demonstrated this through visible participation and representation of women. I take great pride in following NAMA’s inclusive principle, which ensures that the injustices faced by Amhara women — who are often primary victims and early targets of violence — are addressed. It enables women to voice their experiences in their own words and strengthens their representation. In various forums, I have spoken out against the injustices inflicted upon the Amhara people — particularly the violence faced by women — and I deeply respect NAMA’s commitment to making these issues part of its policy agenda. Going forward, we will continue to work hard to empower women’s participation and leadership.
